Sharing a Second Grade Textbook (Unit 5 and complete)

2u501

As my Second grade moms requested, I am on this. I am revising everything. I really wanted to this over the next summer… whatever.

I still don’t like 2nd grade syllabus. It feels weird. I see the books and I really don’t understand a lot of things. Well, I did my best. I will use this year and polish for next year.

For this fifth unit, I only made one project. I really don’t like project 5A because Second Graders don’t see America Geography until later. I retook the project 5A of First Grade which I didn’t do in the First Grade textbook for two reasons:

  1. Geography of Mexico is coming next.
  2. I felt it was important to see it.

To download, please click here for Unit 5 and click here for the WHOLE thing.

Recommendations:

  1. Homemade and not affiliated to a publisher house.
  2. The images are from the Internet. I apologize in advance.
  3. It’s made in black and white to let students color.
  4. If any big mistake, please tell me soon before I go to the copy shop.
  5. I checked 3 different textbook to assemble this.
  6. I am not getting a single cent for this. I lost hours doing mom work for this. Don’t remind me.

To download, please click here for Unit 3 and click here for Unit 4. Hopefully, I will have the rest before October ends.

Two days ago, I was asked what software do I use. I’m lazy and simple. If you are wondering the same, I used POWERPOINT 2007 which is the one that came with my laptop. I don’t use nothing out of ordinary really. PAINT when I need it.

Even more to share: 1st grade textbook (Unit 4-5)

u401

This is still homemade. It’s not affiliated to any publisher house or something like that. I don’t have intellectual property in most of the images and pictures here. It’s for educational purposes and I am NOT obtaining any income for this. Actually, I’m losing time with my kids and sleep hours.

For the PDF file, please CLICK HERE FOR UNIT 4 and CLICK HERE FOR UNIT 5. Please read the NOTES BELOW.

If you got tired of the parts… Here it is the final complete thing (this one has changes on the final draft = 113 pages of sheer awesomeness)

Recommendations and notes (same as before):

  1. It’s meant to be black and white so the kids can color. It’s therapeutic and it helps them with the fine motor skills.
  2. It’s for both side of the page. You have to save trees.
  3. It’s not in any moment a replacement of your current textbook (at least not officially). You can use it as workbook, or homework book.
  4. If you are wondering, I check for different 5 textbooks (a friend lent me another) to make it, also what happened last year into consideration to make this textbook.
  5. It’s not perfect. Any error, mistake, omission or such, please notice me.
  6. If you are teaching 2nd grade for the first time and last year your students didn’t have English, you can totally use it. Most of the achievements are really similar in both grades.
  7. If you share it, just mention me. I would hate that this comes back to my hands in a CD for sell or something like that. Oh, all right then!
  8. Any doubts, send me a comment with email if you are not subscribed to my blog.
  9. If you are wondering why the page numbers go from 1-20, well, those are the one they should learn and it’s better to take out copies. I think. I don’t know really.
  10. For unit 5, I must be honest. I had never done the last project in years. It’s never time to finish, so I do a review instead of project, SO there is no 5A. Why? Because I felt it was more important project 5B than 5A.
  11. You need the audio for one lesson. It’s right here in unit 4.
  12. You will need a song called Working with no rest in unit 5.

Before the graduation, the 4th bimester

0ddbf-paying_attention_2429136

I am not GOD of planning or anything like that. I am just a simple minded teacher who likes to share examples to other clueless teachers.

This is just to get an idea of how to do it. It’s not written in stone or it’s perfect. It’s for 3rd grade, 4th bimester (March-April)

Planning in Secondary, a big reflection and roundup

record views

I love my visits in the posts about planing, specifically those clicks on my lesson plans. No kidding! I understand the difficulties on the topic, something so important and yet so complicated. (Related posts: Reflexions after a secondary reunion and New Planning Format)

Having the textbooks helps a lot, especially if you choose it to fit your students. (check my post: Selecting a textbook).

However, only a couple of schools have updated textbooks in the trail version. Most of us, don’t. (Check posts: PNIEB and Conaliteg, PNIEB and Conaliteg, 2013 edition)

Through influences some have textbooks only one for the teacher, the students go to get copies. That’s the way we are working at school #2. (check post: All Right! 2 – My textbook review)

Last year in my #1 Secondary, we worked (I mean: me) using the syllabus and use printables made by me, which I shared on:

angry-face

This year, we received a note from the supervisor to work with old syllabus since we have old syllabus textbooks. Honestly, I felt betrayed. All year trying and working with the new syllabus and I wasn’t listened or cared by some peers. OK by me, even better I have all for the school year, ha ha ha.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder it could be less stressing if I justgot the lesson plan from someone, follow it and sleep at night. Kidding!, that’s not my style. Even with a textbook, I like to make extra activities. (Check post: Lacking textbook)

Honestly #2, I like to plan by myself. When I just started in Secondary, I bought a planning book ($150 pesos) which I didn’t like and ended up planning all anyway. There wasn’t anything helpful in that book. It was the same that reading the syllabus.

If you want to check out other lesson plans very general too but yet more helpful than that book that I bought a long time a go. Check this 3 places:

  • Programa de Ingles del DF. It has all grades. I like the suggested activities at the second page of each lesson plan.
  • PNIEB Coahuila. I don’t like the format but it has activities, vocabulary and structures which is very helpful to focus on.
  • Planeaciones de Secundaria OLX. This is for sale. It looks interesting. I would buy it if several pitch in.

Writing an Autobiographical Anecdote

The first project of the fourth unit is about Share personal experiences in a conversation.

If you don’t have a textbook, try to make conversations is hard about anecdotes. I finally got hold of one updated textbook and looks complicated still.

So I focused in storytelling, something we have been working on during the school year with the comic strips and the silent movies.

Besides, Spring Break is so near that it’s almost impossible to make students focus on something else that beach time. So, I am focusing on Personal Anecdotes about travels and schools.

  1. Work on reading comprehension with the travel anecdotes.
  2. Practice verbs and grammar with the verb list.
  3. Read the teenager anecdote as an example for the project.
  4. Work on project.
  5. Present project in front of the class.

I give it a try last year and I am sharing the printable that I used.

To be honest, I am a little behind schedule. I am still working on manuals and instructive because I am almost on Maternity leave. Therefore, I don’t need to rush it because I won’t finish the school year anyway.

Travelblog recommendation

Finding a good blog for teaching is a difficult task because it has to fit 80% of what you need. (Thank you for reading this blog by the way!)

For 5th graders, one project is about travelblog and making difference between our country and English-speaking one:

I searched and searched. I went directly for Award-wining blogs (Yes, there are awards… I am hoping for my nomination one day).

The best way to make contrast between two cultures is for an outsider living in this new community. I found one totally winner.

Other good post:

I love Japan, I read religiously a couple of blogs about Spanish speakers living in Asia:

  • Award winner blogger celebrity Flappy and his blog: Un Español en Japon. Beautiful pictures and corky stuff about Japan, also history, food, and lots of cool things.
  • Azul from Paraguay, share her life and family in Vida en Japon. Sadly she doesn’t post very frequently.
  • Nora’s blog is good too. It’s Una Japonesa en Japon.

This one is the coolest thing ever… A family travelling around the world just because… That so sweet. Check it out Vuelta al Mundo en Familia. It’s in Spanish but it’s worth mentioning.
